Richard Spratley Director
Rowing has been central to Richard’s life since school and his achievements as coach at Oxford Brookes University since 1991 are remarkable. Over the years Richard’s dedication, drive and talent have nurtured many skilful crews. In 2000 three Brookes’ students were amongst the gold medal winning crew of the British Men’s Eight and by 2008 seven athletes from Brookes’ represented Great Britain in Beijing winning three silver and one gold medal. Within his time at Brookes the university has achieved a record twenty three wins at Henley Royal Regatta. Richards coaching approach has transformed rowing on a national scale and this enthusiasm is reflected in his construction business, Rockwell.
The Minnows
The complete modernization of this 19th century cottage in central Marlow was necessary as the property had been untouched for a number of years. Working closely with the architect and client a high level of delivery was expected. With attention to detail and an unrelenting, consistent approach the team delivered an exceptional level of craftsmanship which was required by both client and architect.
‘Rockwell’s approach to the project was completely professional and the level of craftsmanship was outstanding’
Mr. Peter Philips – Chief Executive
Red House
An extensive re-modelling of this property provided our client with a charming home which has successfully captured the character of the original property. Internal and external configuration required a sensitive approach and a comprehensive understanding of architectural detailing using traditional building methods.
Russell’s Farm
This derelict farm house has been given a new lease of life and transformed into a home for present day family living. Careful consideration to the external aesthetics and respecting the surrounding properties Rockwell introduced a palette of traditional materials and building methods. Construction of a substantial extension to the property skillfully unifies the original structure and provides a spacious modern home.
Ladder Hill
With this extremely challenging site and numerous planning restrictions the design resolve was carefully approached. To maximize the plot and realize the full potential of the site we replaced the original dwelling with a light, modern home spread over two floor. The internal area has been carefully configured to offer modern family space and, as always, the specification is of the highest quality throughout the property. This property has recently achieved an excellent sale price which s a credit to the design.
High Street
Rockwell undertook the development of this site in 2007 and maximized the sites potential with the construction of two semi-detached property with off-road parking facilities. The site is located at the entrance to an Oxfordshire village and, with careful detailing, Rockwell have created two outstanding homes. Both these properties were sold on completion at a premium price.
Woodperry
This project is a successful residential development of three large detached properties on the outskirts of Oxford. Each property was approached with an individual design concept creating three distinctive and distinguished homes aimed at a carefully selected market. With a considered, high quality specification in all areas of the properties the team successfully delivered three exclusive homes. All three properties were purchased upon completion.
Hailey House
Instructed by the client to replace the existing neglected dwelling with a large country home Rockwell took up the challenge from design to delivery and worked closely with the architect to provide an exceptional property. With uncompromising quality in all aspects of the build the team exceeded the client’s expectations, as well as delivering the project on time and in budget.
‘I am delighted at the level of service I received from start to finish. The house is exceptional and Rockwell have delivered in all aspects of the build’

Boat House
The development of Oxford Brookes University boat house in 2003 was an opportunity of a lifetime. With an unparalleled wealth of experience in the sport the design solution and functionality of the space was uncompromised and today the boat house is an excellent example. Exciting improvements to the site are proposed for 2010 as Oxford Brookes positions itself for the 2012 Olympics.
Overy Farm
This was a phased commercial development of three neglected agricultural buildings which resulted in a stunning office development within easy reach of the M40. As with all our projects respecting the buildings original materials and features inspired the design and work was executed to the highest standards by the team. The space is now occupied by Leaseguard Leasing Services who are delighted by the quality of the build and functionality of the internal configuration.
‘Work space is so often badly designed; Overy Farm is the exception and not the rule. We have been delighted by all aspects of the property from design to specification.
Stuart Jefcoate – Commercial Director – Leaseguard Leasing Services
Habitat warehouse
Rockwell welcomed the opportunity of constructing this warehouse facility on the Rockfort Industrial Estate in Wallingford. The development was a great example of their flexibility and they approached this build with the same high quality of workmanship as is expected on all their projects. The property has been fully let since completion in 2002.
Rockfort
Working closely with the client to construct this bespoke structure Rockwell provided a unique office space which met all business criteria. Within the confines of a restricted budget we worked meticulously on the specification and efficiency of the design to provide the client with a building that met all aspects of the original brief.
